Farewell to Dr. Falwell

Sincere prayers to his family from a former Liberty University student: Class of 1997

Hard to believe I first stepped foot on Liberty University’s campus 14 years ago for my college studies.  There are so many things people either loved or hated about Dr. Falwell, especially the comments from 9/11. I have to say, as many of the silly thoughts I have had about him, I do respect the huge legacy he left with Liberty University.  So many students have gone through that college and have been touched in some way to live a life of faith not only for service within churches but in their work professions.  Liberty was a place where I really found God and where I was challenged about my faith.

Here’s a picture of our new house. We have been very blessed not to have to rent an apartment or condo (I am learning that these tend to be the most affordable options in our area).  Few more pictures of the kids click on the link! (more…)

This is a good link to a film featuring Brian McLaren and speaks to the heart of what I often struggle with - there is often no angst to our worship, no transparency. We have to be happy or God won’t hear us. This is not the reality of the Psalmists - they knew depression and hope all wrapped up in one. This tendency to “fake it” seems even more pronounced here in Orange County - the home of far too many plastic surgeons and Ferrari dealers.

Interview with World Vision President

Great interview by Guy Kawasaki with Richard Stearns of World Vision. Guy’s blog is a good one - everything from venture capitalism to changing the world. This interview is particularly good.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there! We enjoyed a yummy french toast breakfast at home, then off to church, finally our ultimate destination was Corona Del Mar Beach!  It was a great family day and now at 8:30 pm the kids are sound asleep! I am 34 weeks pregnant and the baby is on schedule…all is well! More pictures on the family page.  We were so suprised how cold the water was, I thought my feet would freeze off! (more…)

See ShapeVine for some very cool sharing of knowledge - everything from house churches, emerging networks and The Starfish and The Spider. Seems like great use of technology - here’s hoping the content matches the bells and whistles.

New ground

I have now been in my role as VP of Communications with CRM for almost 4 weeks. It is an interesting environment that is free-flowing and very decentralised. This is not a place where direction comes by dictate. Rather it comes through trust and influence - neither of which can be bought or rushed.

So I am taking lots of time to listen, ask questions and hopefully be a little provocative in that process. This is in many ways a green fields position so as I step out this way and that, things come into focus. New opportunites show themselves - those to seize now and those which should wait for a later date.

It is demanding lots of intuition.
