Great interview by Guy Kawasaki with Richard Stearns of World Vision. Guy’s blog is a good one - everything from venture capitalism to changing the world. This interview is particularly good.

New ground

I have now been in my role as VP of Communications with CRM for almost 4 weeks. It is an interesting environment that is free-flowing and very decentralised. This is not a place where direction comes by dictate. Rather it comes through trust and influence - neither of which can be bought or rushed.

So I am taking lots of time to listen, ask questions and hopefully be a little provocative in that process. This is in many ways a green fields position so as I step out this way and that, things come into focus. New opportunites show themselves - those to seize now and those which should wait for a later date.

It is demanding lots of intuition.

Purpose beyond Profit

Good post on Tom Peters blog regarding the need for a purpose beyond mere profits. It can be encapsulated in this quote - “I believe that we as humans search for a meaningful purpose in everything we do. We are at our very best when we find it.” Regardless of context there is a cry in the heart of every person for purpose beyond themselves. Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He [God] has set eternity in the hearts of men”. Whether it be in relationships, business, the arts , or religion, men and women are searching for the purpose to fit that eternity shaped hole in their soul. As we remember Christ’s death and resurrection this Easter, I know deep within we have found in Christ our purpose, our great hope.

See Tom Peter’s blog for the whole post.

Tyranny of Competence

This observation has rung true as I read “Building the Bridge as You Walk On It - A Guide for Leading Change” by Robert Quinn. This deep and searching book is not a simple book to enact but it discusses change leadership in a manner that few others come close to. (more…)
