We Just Do What We Do

In a poll recently run by Church Marketing Sucks which asked “How does your church work to effectively minister to multiple demographics”, the biggest response was 28% of churches who stated “We just do what we do. God will translate it across cultural lines.”

Great, if that is the way it works, why don’t we go to inner-Mongolia and speak English to non-English speaking people! This survey response is a classic example of why the church needs to think like missionaries and so often doesn’t. And then in the same breath, these churches will be decrying the standards of young generations.

First Days in CRM

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

This week I am in CRM’s New Staff Orientation.NSO

I am so impressed with the transparency and humility of this leadership - as one participant said to them, “I want to be like you when I grow up”. And I think this is the real deal - not mere words, but reality. In addition to the leadership I am privileged to sit alongside real revolutionaries of love, faith and hope. I am overwhelmed by the stories of a highly educated young couple going to serve the poor in Cambodia, a young woman serving in the brokenness of New Orleans, and a young man serving in a part of the world where his friends are being matyred for the cause of Christ. It is a humbling privilege to know my place is to serve these people by finding more like them to serve with them and to find the resources to empower them to continue. This mission of God is what is really worth living and dying for - the rest of the “OC” is a mere shadow.
