In the midst of all the change going on in our house, I have finally found some time to finish a book I have been in for some time. I think I finished it while comforting Alexis. The book is “Robin Hood Marketing - Stealing Corporate Savvy to Sell Just Causes” by Katya Andresen. It is one of the best books I have found on applying fundamental marketing principles to the unique world of non-profits. Too often we get caught up in our mission and expect everyone else to do so also. starfish-and-spider2.jpgThis is a great book for discovering the power of decentralisation or as the books subtitle says “The Unstoppable Power of Leaderless Organisations.” Using the core illustration of the fact that just a single amputated leg of a starfish can regrow to a complete starfish, the authors further illustrate the power of decentralisation by the example of the Apaches resisting the Spanish army. Those illustrations are then extended to the organisations of our time such as Wikipedia, Craigs List, al Qaeda and Skype.
